How important is the name for a company?  Very important.  As demonstrated this month when Hanesbrand Inc., the American underwear company, threatened to sue Hanes Hummus, a small Canadian food product company, over trademark violations.  Even though the difference between underwear and hummus is pretty large and pretty obvious, the underwear company still felt the uniqueness of their name and brand image to be threatened by the food company.
