Why Creating and Verifying Your Business on Google My Business is So Important

Most business owners, particularly those who are technically savvy, understand the importance of how a business appears online.  They understand that a business’ search results on Google can dramatically impact a company’s chances of success and whether customers will choose to use the company’s services or, alternatively, go with a competitor.  

For businesses, proactive online reputation management means paying attention to a company’s Google search results.  It also means listing one’s business on Google My Business, if that has not already been done.

What Is Google My Business and What Does It Do to Search Results

In 2014, Google launched Google My Business as a platform to make it easier for business owners to manage and update their company information on Google and, importantly, what information about a company’s business is displayed across Google’s various platforms, like Google Maps, search and Google+.

With more people on their mobiles, search results tailored to one’s local location are becoming increasingly powerful.  Indeed, roughly 18% of local searches completed on mobiles leads to a sale.   A good statistic to keep in mind.

Having your business listed on Google My Business and having up-to-date information about your company on the platform gives you a far more powerful presence in local Google results.  In turn, that may translate into more customers visiting your company, which means ultimately higher sales.

One-Stop-Shop for Updating Information About Your Business

Driving sales and customers to your company fundamentally depends on one thing: that customers know how to contact your company and have the most current information about your company, like main phone number, address, hours of operation, etc.  If your business is not on Google My Business, you may have to update information about your business piecemeal across a number of Google platforms.  Alternatively, updating your company’s information in one location, i.e. your Google My Business account, will automatically update this information across all Google platforms.

Managing Multiple Business Locations

For organizations that have multiple business locations, listing your company on Google My Business provides an easy way to make updates to information relevant to each of your locations.  Even more importantly, the fact that Google My Business allows business owners to make sure every locations’ address and contact information is accurate means that Google users will be able to look for a particular business location and find it that much easier.
